Samara Farms History
The founder of Samara Farms, Matt Dawson, went to college at the University of Tennessee and received a degree in Ornamental Horticulture and Urban Forestry. After interning for several nurseries he decided that one day he wanted to have his own. Realizing that starting a nursery required a large amount of capital which he did not have, Matt realized he had to create a company to raise the revenue and provide the cash flow necessary to start the nursery. After 10 years in the landscaping business, as he built many private botanical gardens, Matt realized that it was a struggle to find a wide variety of high quality plant material at a single location.
In 2003, he bought a cattle farm and began creating Samara Farms. Samara Farms opened its doors to customers in 2005. Since then, Matt’s pleasure has been in finding the highest quality plant material and brokering for 180 nurseries across the U.S. Not only does he enjoy cultivating rare and unusual plants, he also enjoys cultivating people just as much. He feels he has put together a team of horticulturists that will provide the highest quality of customer service.
